Some pictures of the Eastern State Penitentiary I visited in Philadelphia. It was of course a little bit dismal but also an interesting visit. This penitentiary was one which has a doctrine which seems hard : all prisoners were always alone, it was forbidden to speak or meet others prisoners so they were always alone and silent. It’s easy to imagine they probably became crazy. I tried to figure this loneliness in my pictures.

Quelques photos prises au Eastern State Penitentiary de Philadelphie. C’était bien entendu un peu lugubre comme visite mais fort intéressant. Ce pénitencier avait une doctrine particulièrement dure : tous les prisonniers étaient à l’isolement complet, seul en permanence. Il était interdit de parler ou de rencontrer les autres prisonniers. On peut facilement imaginer qu’ils devaient sombrer rapidement dans la folie. J’ai tenté de capter cette solitude que l’ont peut ressentir dans ce lieu à travers mes photos.
